Guy Finley is not your average self-help guru. In fact, unlike many authors who rose from the shadows of life and were driven by a mad desire for success, Mr. Finley has come from the opposite direction! And in my mind, this is an extremely notable distinction.
The son of Larry Finley, a late-night talk show pioneer and radio celebrity, Guy Finley has enjoyed several successful careers; including composing award-winning music for many popular recording artists, motion pictures, and episodic television scores, and writing and recording his own albums for the prestigious Motown and RCA record labels from 1970 through 1979. The bottom line is: he grew up surrounded by success and extremely successful people.
But as we all know, success in business or the entertainment world (movie and rock stars) in and of itself may not necessary bring ultimate contentment and happiness (you can probably think of many examples).
Guy Finley has voluntarily given up those successful careers. Since 1979, he has turned his attention towards the inner study of self and has become a master at guiding people in their search for wisdom and a better life (as evidenced by his worldwide success as a best-selling author and his many talk-show and radio appearances). The mission of his Life of Learning Foundation is simply “to help individuals realize their True Relationship with Life through higher self-studies”.
Who can you trust
In this day and age, truth seekers are sensitive about the background and reputation of individuals offering advice (whether paid-for or free) and with good reason. In this dog-eat-dog world of hyper marketing the message may indeed be lost in the medium. Whatever happened to the good ole’ days of sitting at the feet of the master?
You can read Guy Finley’s books if you want to. You can listen to Guy Finley on Internet radio, download podcasts or free MP3 lectures if you want them. Attend study groups/workshops if it suits you. In other words, the works of Guy Finley are freely available to those who find them useful. If you need a personal online ‘healing place’, these methods are absolutely non-threatening, safe, and user-friendly.
A Succession of Mastery
I quite unexpectedly chanced on Mr. Finley’s work while following up on an earlier author, a Christian mystic whose books I had collected and read in the 1970’s; Vernon Howard. I actually though no one had ever heard of him; the books seemed to be self-published and sold in niche markets. I had bought mine at a country store in New Hampshire!
Although teasingly tempted and tantalized with solving the myriad of common life problems, the books by Vernon Howard left me with some very potent tidbits of wisdom but unfortunately provided little in the way of spiritual exercises or a support group to clarify the answers, which are two of many techniques so commonly popular today. I was disappointingly unfulfilled and eventually moved on to a succession of works by many other authors (my personal quest).
Time slipped away and now we are in the new millennium. Little did I know that Guy Finley had mentored with Vernon Howard. In fact, Mr. Howard, before his death in 1992 inspired Guy to write his first book. For me this was a recent discovery and great news!
A succession of masters has made these important messages ongoingly available to the masses in this age of the Internet. I’ve already mentioned that Finley’s work is full of spiritual exercises. And perhaps most importantly to me, is that the messages are quite Christian Friendly.
Pick a topic
So if you happen to see a nice healthy fruit tree by the side of the road on your spiritual journey and find yourself in need of nourishment, by all means stop and have a sample. Perhaps Guy Finley has just what you need.
Note: Please don’t be overwhelmed by the sheer volume of material available referenced here; you don’t need them all! Just pick a topic; take what you need at the moment…
